GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS: CAUSES, EFFECTS AND STRATEGIES FOR COMBATING IT

Today nearly one in six people worldwide is chronically malnourished to lead a productive active life. Over the past 10 years, this problem has worsened. Throughout the world, the problems of food crisis are widespread and growing. It exists in virtually every nation but is most common in developing countries. Within the developing world, approximately 1 billon people are malnourished as a result of food crisis which is the main cause of food insecurity, malnutrition and others. This paper examined the causes of food crisis, the effects and some possible solutions. If food crisis is to be eradicated, we all have to understand the causes and effects and begin to assume responsibility today and not tomorrow to work on solutions to food crisis both at home and in faraway nations. Other useful suggestions were also made. It was recommended among others that the anthropogenic causes of global warming should be prevented to avoid temperature rise of the earth’s atmosphere which has adverse effect on agricultural output in order to achieve food security.
