Social studies as a diversified curriculum have moved away from the study of the immediate environment to a more complex subject that helps to address issues across national boundaries. The focus of this study is to examine the concept of the new world order and its effects on the global system. The role of social studies is to inculcate in the young ones the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable them to participate as full members of a global society and to understand the global dimension to topical issues that affect them in their communities. They need to critically assess information they receive via the media and to understand their consumers’ rights and responsibilities and thereby make informed decisions as consumers, employees and later employers among others.
